Toward the Center: a Feature of the Center for Academic Excellence

Where will Ken Bain (What the Best College Professors Do), Larry Michaelsen (creator of Team Based Learning), four Oxford College scholars, and 55 invited participants be from May 11-14, 2010? The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) of Oxford College of Emory University and Emory University’s Center for Faculty Development and Excellence (CDFE) will host the fourth annual Institute of Pedagogy in the Liberal Arts (IPLA), held on the Oxford College campus, May 11-14, 2010. Emory University and Oxford College faculty will be in attendance along with participants from eight other institutions across the state.  IPLA grows!

The technology sessions will be led by the IT professionals with guest presentations by leading Oxford faculty.

Participants select one seminar for the Tuesday/Wednesday session and one seminar for the Thursday/Friday session.  Topics and leaders include:

Tuesday/Wednesday

• Team-Based Learning: Small Group Learning in Large Classes (Larry Michaelsen)

• Inquiry-Guided Learning (Florian Pohl and Paul Oser, Oxford College)

• Blended Learning: Teaching and Learning with Technology (Faculty and IT Staff, Oxford College)


Thursday/Friday

• Best Practices by the Best Teachers (Ken Bain)

• Inquiry-Guided Learning (Jeff Galle and Stacy Bell, Oxford College)

• Blended Learning: Teaching and Learning with Technology (Faculty and IT Staff, Oxford College)
